| ARTISTS STATEMENT "My best paintings are the ones done 'en plein air' or those which I have done in the studio based on a good plein air study. Painting is all about translating color, space, and shape relationships onto a two-dimensional surface in order to express a perception, mood or emotion which one has felt. That is why when I paint outdoors, I prefer to have no interference from radios, music or other unnecessary noises. When I first bought a small van for my painting trips I had made certain that it had a good sound system." |
"But on my first day out painting I set up my easel, turned on a good piece of classical music and began to paint. But something was wrong. Where were the sounds of the birds, the ocean, the wind in the trees? So I stopped the music and soon, I realized that I was also being distracted from the soft breeze, the fresh aromas of the flowering plants, the sea air, and the mood of the place; not to mention the perception of the warmth of the sunlight and the coolness of the shadows." |
